About Isla
I am a singing coach with six years of experience and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Vocal Studies. My teaching approach focuses on balanced vocal training that nurtures both technique and creativity. I guide students through stylistic versatility, helping them explore genres from classical to contemporary with confidence. Improvisation is a key part of my lessons, encouraging self-expression and musical exploration. I also emphasise harmony, ear training, and music theory to deepen understanding and support performance skills. Each lesson is tailored to the student’s goals, pace, and interests, creating a supportive and engaging learning environment. I work closely with singers to strengthen breath control, vocal placement, and tone quality. Students learn to interpret music thoughtfully while developing their unique artistic voice. My approach blends technical skill with musicality, ensuring growth in both performance and understanding. I encourage creativity through exercises, repertoire selection, and guided practice that is both fun and challenging. My singing methodology emphasises vocal wellness, mindfulness, and long-term voice care for every student. Warm-ups are the foundation, starting gently with humming, lip trills, and scales to wake the voice without strain. Hydration is key, so I encourage consistent water intake and steam exercises to keep vocal cords healthy. Healthy vocal placement helps singers project with ease and prevent fatigue, focusing on resonance rather than force. For soloists in training, lessons balance technical growth with mental calm, fostering confidence and joy in performing. Ensemble singers learn to blend and harmonise while maintaining their own vocal health and awareness. Mindfulness practices, such as guided breathwork and short meditation timers, help reduce anxiety and enhance focus before singing. Tracking progress with vocal apps allows students to notice subtle improvements and adjust practice safely. Exercises are tailored to each persona’s needs, ensuring sustainable growth. I incorporate gentle stretches, posture alignment, and mindful breathing to support every session. Students are guided to celebrate small achievements, reinforcing joy and consistency in practice. Lessons combine technical skill with emotional connection, nurturing both voice and spirit. The approach creates confident, resilient singers who can enjoy music for years to come.
