About Lucas

ME AND THE PIANO
I am a professional pianist, accordionist and educator from Brazil based in Brooklyn with over 10 years of teaching experience. While I am passionate about performing, I deeply love demystifying this incredible instrument for others.

MY PROMISE TO YOU
I know that finding the right teacher is a big decision. I promise to bring the same level of dedication to your first lesson as I do to my performances. I am here to be your guide, and will be happy for every step you do on the way.

WHERE I LEARNED MUSIC
My musical journey is built on a balance of formal discipline and creative freedom. I hold a Degree in Jazz Performance from The City College Of New York and 28 years of private studies.
However, I believe music lives in the world, not only the classroom. As an active artist in the NYC music scene, I have performed at venues like Nublu, Mynton's and The Jazz Forum. This experience allows me to teach you not just "textbook" music, but the practical skills you need to play with other musicians, handle a live setting, or simply sound great in your living room.

A WORLD OF STYLES
The piano is a passport to many cultures and traditions. My background allows me to navigate comfortably between many genres you want to learn Jazz, Classical, Pop, R&B, Rock, Folk, Brazilian Music....

Let’s sit on the piano and make some music!

MY TEACHING APPROACH
I believe that learning the piano should be a structured, rewarding, and completely stress-free experience. My lessons are entirely practical and hands-on. We don't just memorize drills; we learn music by playing the music you actually care about.
Whether you are touching the instrument for the very first time or you are an experienced musician looking to master complex jazz harmony, I break down complex concepts into manageable, logical steps

A PATIENT, JUDGMENT-FREE ENVIRONMENT
Learning a new instrument takes vulnerability. My studio is a calm, focused space where mistakes are welcomed as a natural part of the learning process. I progress entirely at your pace, ensuring you build confidence with every single session.

️ WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
We will design a customized roadmap based on your personal goals and musical tastes. Topics we can cover include:
• The Fundamentals: Proper posture with the instrument, comfortable touch control, and efficient finger technique to avoid tension.
• Hands Coordination and Rythm: Demystifying the process of coordinating playing with both hands together is a crucial step on every learning stage.
• Repertoire: The most important part, building a set of your favorite songs across genres that you love.
• Practical Musicianship: Learning to read lead sheets, understanding chords and improvisation.

️ A TYPICAL 60-MINUTE LESSON
Every lesson is balanced to ensure you leave feeling inspired and knowing exactly what to practice next:
• The First 5 Minutes: Mindful warm-ups focusing on physical ease and finger technique.
• The Next 40 Minutes: Repertoire study. We break down your current song section-by-section.
• The Last 15 Minutes: Creative application. Applying music theory directly to your playing, exploring improvisation, or setting clear goals for your weekly practice.

  • 1) When did you first develop a passion for music and your favorite instrument?

    1) I started being passionate about music at the age 3, when I started learning music education for kids. Music has always been a way to gather community in my life and socially. I think my favorite instrument is always the voice, I always want to make my piano to sing.
  • 2) Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

    2) I could listen to all Brazilian Music MPB artists like Djavan, Milton, Caetano, Gil on 24/7 without being enough. Also, Jazz musicians like Wayne Shorter, Hermeto Pascoal, Keith Jarrett, Bill Frisell, Paul Motian are always in my heart and on my playlists!
  • 3) Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

    3) I always encourage students to get an adequate challenge for where they are at the moment. I really like to do solo piano arrangements, transcriptions of piano pieces to accordion, we could also learn very advanced skills and devices on Jazz harmony and improvisation.
  • 4) What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

    4) Mastering an instrument is a never ending process, any instrument will give us an infinite amount of skills to learn and techniques to refine. I prefer to think of it like a language, you can always express yourself better but there is a point where you feel fluent with it!
  • 5) What are your keys to success?

    5) I think working diligently and consistently is the best way to learn anything. Allowing ourselves time to go through the challenges and extracting knowledge out of it and expanding our sensitivity is what gives me a lot of joy in life and is a shared path to learn many many beautiful things.
  • 6) Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

    6) If I could have breakfast with Gil I would have accomplished life in full. I really would love to talk about mundanities, daily life and get a little bit of his wisdom... the way he speaks is so beautiful.
  • 7) Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

    7) I always remember learning from playing with musicians much older than me, especially in my early 20's. The first thing that comes to my mind is a bass player, a great friend, always telling me to play more simply, the more the time passes this makes more sense.
  • 8) What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

    8) I love to listen to people and try to give them good advice. I think it is important to be aware of the amount of material we go through at the same time, and also very important to teach students how to practice, as it is how we teach ourselves music.
