About Joshua
Hi, I’m Josh, I teach GCSE, A-Level, Bachalers and Masters degree level maths, mechanics, structures, and statistics. I provide training in robotics, AI and fundamental computer science and programming concepts.
I am a Research & Development Engineer who specializes in turning cutting-edge academic research into real-world technology. I hold a PhD in Engineering, am a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA), and hold professional certifications in TensorFlow, LabVIEW, MATLAB, and SolidWorks.
When I’m not teaching, I run a small consultancy and build advanced technologies. Some of my favorite past projects include:
- Working with villagers to training AI to detect and count rare birdsong in the jungles of Borneo.
- Developing high-performance measurement tools for the British Olympic Sailing Team (and teaching the physics behind the sailing).
- Designing acoustic levitation systems and ultra-lightweight wildlife trackers for tiny Terrapin turtles.

Most students come to me to prepare for exams or if they’re feeling a little behind in their classes. Maths and engineering are built from many simpler ideas, and I help students fill in gaps and connect the ideas together.
Typical Lesson Structure:
1) We'll start by going through some topics you find tricky. This helps me figure out key concepts to work on together.
2) Together, we'll make a plan to practise each topic until you are confident in each bit of knowledge you need to tackle any of the hardest questions in your courses.
3) We'll then practice everything together and some exam style questions that I'll either make up or take from text books or past exams.
My approach is patient, structured, and focused on building understanding to get the results. Whether you need to catch up, improve grades, or boost confidence, I’ll help you to build up to the hardest questions and understand the theory and reasoning behind them.

Josh is absolutely amazing at explaining difficult concepts very simply. I have known him for 10 years and he never fails to explain relay concepts to me in an easy to digest way.
