About Tomoko
Hello, I'm Tomoko. I'm from Nagano, Japan, and I've been living in Canada for 14 years.
Qualification: I have completed a Japanese Language Teacher Training Course. With 4+ years of teaching experience, I've taught all levels at a Japanese language school in Seoul for 2 years and offered private lessons in Canada. Don't worry - I communicate clearly in English!
I love meeting new people and sharing our experiences, interests, and anything else that makes learning together fun! I'm passionate about exploring new cultures, languages, and meeting new people. In my free time, I enjoy exploring new places (20+ countries), visiting national parks, hiking, and baking bread. I believe that by communicating in Japanese, you'll connect with locals and gain a deeper understanding of the culture. I am looking forward to meeting you and let'e improve Japanese together!

For bigger to advanced learners,
I primarily use the Japanese textbook "Genki 1" and "Genki 2", along with other supplementary materials, to help you build a strong foundation in grammar and develop real conversation skills.
Genki 1 covers beginner - level topics from kana to adjective and verb constructions, while Genki 2 continues on to intermediate-level topics. We'll practice formal and casual speaking together, building on what you've learned!

Perfect! Tomoko is a great Japanese tutor. She is always very positive and supportive. She implements an effective independent approach based on students' abilities, making sure the lessons are both engaging and informative. Tomoko has very helpful resources and exercises ready for each lesson, and follows a well-known Japanese textbook. She is also a great help in preparing for the JLPT.
