About Laura
I am a French journalist who just relocated to Toronto.
I started giving French lessons while I was studying in Sciences Po Paris, and loved it so much that I kept doing it throughout the years. I've taught French basics to foreign students and professionals, and French literature to students of all ages, from High school to College.
I hold a Masters' degree from Sciences Po's Journalism School (ranked #2 in France) and a Bachelor of Arts from the same school (it's not internationally famous but it's quite a good one: ask French president Emmanuel Macron about it ;)). Prior to that, I obtained my French Baccalauréat with the highest honors (20/20 in French Literature, in History, Italian Literature...).
I've been teaching with Superprof (using the French version) for more than 5 years now and can provide a LOT of recommendations :)

1) Set up clear objectives (getting a French degree? applying for a new job? being fluent on your next vacation? reading Proust "dans le texte"?)
My methodology varies according to the student's needs and existing knowledge (which are assessed on the first course). It's a mix of "quick-wins" and long-term achievements. It's all about setting up realistic yet challenging goals, and prioritizing what matters most.
2) Focus on conversation
Because practice is the key, I shouldn't be speaking more than you. It's 50-50!
I'm here to help, and mistakes are part of the process: the more you'll make with me, the less will happen in a real-life situation.
3) Global approach
With me, you'll learn not only French language, but more about French culture in general. Instead of classic textbooks, I like to use excerpts from books. I am truly passionate about Literary History and will be more than happy to share my knowledge with you.

Laura grew up learning five languages: French, Italian, English, Spanish and Swedish. That explains why she can make it so easy for you to learn AT LEAST one of them :)
I am a French College student and I have to write essays on a regular basis. When in doubt, I turn to Laura: her explanations are always on point. She also helps me to have a more in-depth understanding of the subject and what is expected from me.
Plus, she is extremely kind and patient: I can ask her any questions without feeling ashamed, she always makes me feel comfortable which is very important to me!
Laura also trained me to improve my oral skills. I know feel comfortable speaking as she used to work with me not only on the content but also in terms of methodology. She helped me to improve my elocution and worked on my ability to address different audiences (jury, recruiter, classmates).
Laura has a great teaching style, she's super focused on making you progress while never forgetting to create a fun time during the lesson.
Laura is a very passionate and talented French teacher. Your French level could be improved within few weeks thanks to her patience and her good methodology. She is also the only person that I know who got the highest score (20/20) on the French Baccalauréat
Laura is the best French teacher I know. I have seen her give passionate French lessons in Paris and Toronto to many students - from all ages and horizons - and the feedback is always the same: they improve their French skills, and have a good time.
Laura will spend the time required to assess your level, identify what you really need, and make sure you are making progress while having fun, at your own pace. But it’s more than just a tailored methodology - Laura wants to see you progress, and she will not let you down until the job is done. So, expect to work!
Even native, French speakers turn to Laura when they have a French question (“can we say this?”; “how do you write this?”; etc.). I am sure she will not admit it because she is a journalist but Laura was born to be a French teacher… So do not hesitate if you are serious about learning French!View more recommendations

Details
You're welcome to my place in downtown Toronto
It's the perfect study environment, with lots of great French books, daylight, and tea/coffee for everyone!
I do not accept to give lessons in public spaces like coffees (except for the first lesson), simply because it's usually not as effective due to the amount of distractions.
I can come to your place, however an additional travel expense fee will be required.
Prices will be adjusted if student takes courses on a regular basis (2 hours/week or more)
