About Rachael
Hello! My name is Rachael, and I'm a secondary school science teacher based in Southwest London.
With a passion for science, I have dedicated three years to understanding the human body and the application of laboratory work during my BSc in Biomedical Science from Coventry University.
I have been teaching secondary school science with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education with qualified teaching status.
My journey in science has been fuelled by a deep commitment to increasing the quality of life for the community around me.
Outside of work, I enjoy reading and writing fiction, and anything that keeps me active, like the gym, athletics or martial arts. I find that these activities provide a wonderful balance to my professional life. I am also passionate about care work with those who may be physically unable to provide for themselves as I strongly believe in giving back to the community.

When teaching students, I like to individualise their learning. This includes assessing and understanding where students may struggle, then scaffolding their learning accordingly.
As a secondary school science teacher, I like to construct my lessons in an 'I do, we do, you do' structure to build confidence. This method applies to all Key Stages (1-4) for both maths, biology, chemistry and physics.
I recommend an hour and a half to allow students to recall prior knowledge, understand each portion of the lesson and then apply what they have learnt.
The aim of my lessons is comprehension; therefore, if students struggle with a portion of the lesson, I will reinforce what was learnt. This may be through reteaching if I believe this is beneficial or through overlearning, which is the process of excess practice until the key information of the lesson moves from short-term to long-term memory.
