References and qualifications are available, but history reveals that a brief introductory meeting will dispel concerns about my fitness and the student’s reasonable goals. I conduct these introductory meetings free of charge. Without a connection, a congruency of aim and purpose, we can’t succeed. Together in our goals, however, we can do some pretty great things. Successful learning experiences promote more of the same.

I am probably not your best choice for a tutor. Let that sink in. I bring a very distinctive, narrowly focused approach to private, one-on-one education. I am kind and sensitive to students’ and parents’ needs, but my goal is to get you where you want to go, which will require you to do your part in your own education. I admit to being insensitive and dismissive of excuses for not doing the work necessary to improve. I charge more than many tutors. I can be insistent, and I do not continue working with students who don’t have similar dedication. In return, I offer a commitment to the student that few tutors can match. I expect that I will will spend at least as much time preparing for a tutoring session as I do face-to-face with a student. My lessons are personalized, and my goal is the one we will have agreed on at the start of our tutoring experience. I expect to be paid as we agree at the outset, but remuneration is secondary to the sense of achievement I enjoy when a student succeeds. I do not anticipate long term relationships. Instead, I teach habits of mind, ways to analyze, criticize, and persuade, techniques that, once learned, will allow the student to succeed in the future without my assistance. I am good at what I do. I encourage students who know their goals and are motivated to achieve them to meet me. If we “have a fit,” amazing results will follow.
