About Mohammad zaif

Hi, I'm Zaif
I'm a fourth-year B.Tech student at IIT Bombay, and I cleared JEE Advanced to get here. That matters for one simple reason: I sat in the same chair you're sitting in now, not too long ago. I remember which chapters felt impossible, which mistakes cost me marks, and how it feels to stare at a problem with no idea where to begin.
How I started teaching
My first students came through the National Service Scheme at IIT Bombay, where I taught JEE aspirants from schools with limited resources. Many of them were sharp but had never had anyone sit down and explain a concept slowly, in language they were comfortable with. The day a student told me a topic she had been avoiding for a month suddenly "clicked" was the day I decided teaching was something I wanted to keep doing.
What you can expect from me
Classes that start on time and follow a plan. You'll always know what we're covering and why.
Honest feedback. If something isn't working, I'll say so early and we'll change the approach.
No question is too basic. I'd much rather you ask than nod along quietly. Doubts asked early save months later.
Doubt support outside class. Most doubts show up while you're practicing alone at night. Message me and I'll get back to you.
Regular progress checks so you can see improvement in numbers, not just feelings.
My promise
I won't rush through the syllabus to look productive, and I won't take on more students than I can give proper attention to. If I ever feel I'm not the right fit for what you need, I'll tell you honestly instead of wasting your time and money.
The first class is a conversation. Tell me where you're struggling, and we'll build a plan from there. I'd love to hear from you.
Three edits before you post it: add your subject (Physics/Chemistry/Math) in the opening line, mention whether you teach online, offline, or both, and swap my "she" anecdote for a real one of your own if you have a better story.

Teaching techniques and methods
I start from where the student actually is, not from where the chapter begins. Before starting a new topic I ask two or three quick questions to check what prerequisites are missing, and fill those first.
Concept before formula. I explain why a result holds and where it comes from before we start applying it, because students who only memorize formulas break down the moment a question is twisted.
For problem solving I use a three-step pattern: I solve one problem completely, we solve a similar one together, then the student solves the third one alone while I watch for where they hesitate. That hesitation point is usually the real gap.
I also keep asking questions back to students instead of lecturing continuously. In my NSS classes many students were shy about admitting confusion, so I made asking doubts a normal, expected part of the session rather than something embarrassing.
Structure of a class (90 minutes)
10 min: recap of the previous class with two quick check questions
20 min: concept explanation with derivation and the physical/logical intuition behind it
30 min: worked examples, moving from basic to JEE level
20 min: students attempt problems on their own while I move around and help individually
10 min: summary of key takeaways and homework with a fixed deadline
I revise older topics in small doses throughout instead of leaving everything for one big revision at the end.
What I bring as a teacher
I cleared JEE recently and am currently in my fourth year at IIT Bombay, so I still remember exactly where students get stuck and which silly mistakes cost marks. That gap between "knowing the subject" and "remembering what it feels like to not know it" is usually where teaching fails, and I'm still close enough to the exam to avoid it.
Through NSS I taught students from Hindi-medium and low-resource backgrounds, so I've learned to adjust language and pace instead of assuming prior knowledge. I don't rush a class just to finish the syllabus.
I also teach exam strategy alongside content: time management, which questions to skip, how to check work quickly, how to handle a paper that feels difficult in the first ten minutes.
I stay available for doubts outside class hours, since most real doubts appear while a student is practicing alone at night, not during class.
Who my classes are for
Class 11 and 12 students preparing for JEE Main and Advanced
Class 9-10 students building foundations in Physics/Math
Board exam students who need conceptual clarity along with marks
Droppers who need structured revision and consistent practice
