About Malaya

As a Howard University student in a strong biology program, I bring strong academic training in math and science along with the communication skills needed to explain complex topics in a clear, simple, and approachable way. My coursework regularly involves algebra, chemistry, and biological sciences, which has strengthened both my problem-solving abilities and my understanding of how to break down difficult material for others.

In addition to my biology background, I have a solid foundation in mathematics through algebra and higher-level problem solving, as well as chemistry and biology at both the high school and college level. This combination allows me to support students across multiple subjects with confidence and accuracy.

My goal as a tutor is to create a structured, encouraging environment where students feel supported and capable. I understand that math and science can often feel overwhelming, so I focus on building understanding step by step rather than rushing through material. I emphasize clarity, consistency, and patience in every session, making sure students fully grasp each concept before moving forward.

I take a personalized approach to every student. I assess their current level, identify areas of difficulty, and adapt my teaching style to match their needs. Whether a student is working on basic arithmetic, algebraic equations, chemistry concepts, or biology topics, I make sure the material is presented in a way that is easy to follow and apply.

Students and parents can expect professionalism, reliability, and clear communication. I am committed to helping students not only improve their grades, but also build long-term confidence in their ability to succeed in math and science.

My tutoring approach is patient, structured, and focused on helping students build a strong understanding of core math and science concepts. As a Howard University student in a rigorous biology program, I regularly use algebra, chemistry, and biological science in my coursework, which allows me to explain topics in a clear and practical way that students can actually understand and apply.

My teaching method focuses on breaking down complex ideas into simple, step-by-step explanations. I emphasize understanding the “why” behind each concept, not just memorizing formulas or procedures. I use guided practice, repetition with support, and real-world examples when possible to help concepts stick.

A typical lesson begins with a quick review of previous material to reinforce retention. Then we focus on one key topic, such as solving algebraic equations, balancing chemical reactions, or understanding a biology concept like cell function or genetics. I explain the concept clearly, work through examples with the student, and then gradually let them try problems independently while I provide feedback and correction. Each session ends with a recap of what we covered and short practice goals for the next lesson.

What sets me apart is my ability to stay calm, patient, and encouraging, especially when students feel frustrated or overwhelmed. I understand that math and science can feel intimidating, so I focus on building confidence just as much as academic skill. My goal is for students to leave each session feeling more capable than when they started.

My lessons are for elementary, middle school, high school, and early college students who need support in:

Elementary math through algebra
Basic to advanced chemistry
Biology (elementary through high school level, including introductory college topics)
General science homework help and exam preparation

I tailor each session to the student’s level, pace, and learning style so they can build a strong foundation and make steady, lasting progress
