About Ryan
Technical clarity matters more than anything else. I start by observing how you naturally hold the instrument. We discuss your previous habits and identify where tension arises. You receive recorded playback of tricky passages for home practice after our time concludes.
This allows you to evaluate your bowing mechanics alone. I emphasize proper intonation through slow, deliberate repetition. We build stability into your practice routines. Sight reading is never rushed here.
I break down difficult segments into manageable chunks. You find your rhythm through guided observation. Results come through consistent, calm effort.

You may hold an MMus degree, yet you often find that returning to the basics creates the strongest foundation. My own training at Conservatoire helped me understand the nuance of left hand agility and double stops. After teaching 132 students, I have gained a deep respect for those who challenge themselves later in life. Whether you are a returning learner or a self-taught player seeking structure, I adjust my methods to meet you where you are.
My background in voice often influences how I explain intonation and tuning by ear to my violin students. Sight reading and ear training are components I integrate into every session for a complete musical experience. I find that focusing on spiccato and staccato bowing patterns creates the most significant shifts in tone quality. My approach values the patience required to master these complex physical movements.
