About Kace

Hello! My name is Kace, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to help students strengthen their English skills. Currently, I’m a distinguished honors student at Penn State, maintaining a 4.0 GPA and entering my senior year. I’ve won multiple awards for my writing, particularly in nonfiction essays, and have studied an array of subjects, including English literature, philosophy, history, art history, and natural sciences. My academic journey has been enriched by interdisciplinary honors coursework both at Penn State and the Community College of Philadelphia, where I excelled in a diverse Honors curriculum.

Outside of academia, I love spending time in nature, whether I’m kayaking, working outdoors, or relaxing with a good book. I’m a big family person, and my two dogs mean the world to me!

I like to take on students from 2nd grade through college seniors. My approach is rooted in adaptability, creativity, and active engagement, ensuring every student understands the material. Here’s a breakdown of my methods, techniques, session planning, and what my tutoring style looks like. Please keep in mind that I primarily help learners with what they have already been assigned, rather than planning a lesson and providing assignments myself.

Teaching Method and Techniques:

I employ a student-centered approach, adjusting my methods to suit each student's needs, learning style, and academic level. For younger students, this involves using visual aids, games, and storytelling to make learning interactive and fun. For high school and college students, I focus on developing critical thinking, analysis, and academic writing skills. Across all levels, I use guided questioning to encourage students to arrive at answers independently, boosting their confidence and ownership of learning. This can be flexible if older students are looking for a more direct answer-based help from me.

A Typical Session:

1. Introduction & Objective Setting: Start with a re-cap or review of previous material to activate prior knowledge. We will clearly outline the session’s goals, so students know what they’re working toward and I know how I can help.
2. Core Lesson: Different for every scenario - introduce concepts that the student may need assistance with using explanations, examples, and interactive activities. This includes reading passages, practicing grammar, discussing themes, or analyzing texts, depending on the level and topic. With older students, I find that I spend most sessions helping draft and revise essays while we talk through the content and material of the piece. With younger students, we discuss and practice concepts relevant to what they’re learning at school and I help complete assignments.
3. Guided Practice (Optional): In scenarios where this is helpful, students apply what they’ve learned through exercises or discussion. I provide feedback, clarify misunderstandings, and encourage questions.
4: Closing Review and Assessment (5-10 minutes): Summarize key points and check for understanding with quick assessments or recaps. Outline next steps or suggest practice work tailored to reinforce the lesson.

What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor:

I build a positive learning environment where students feel supported and motivated. I emphasize the relevance of language skills, relating lessons to real-life scenarios or students’ interests, which makes the material engaging. I also bring in multimedia, current events, or literature that aligns with students' levels and goals, helping them see English as a vibrant, practical subject. It’s important to me that students feel comfortable - sessions with me are relaxed, judgement-free, and aim to make each individual confident in their abilities.

Who the Lessons Are For:

When I arrange a session where I will be lesson-planning and teaching my own material, lessons are designed for a broad range of students—

Elementary to High School Students: I focus on foundational skills such as reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and writing structure.
College Students and Advanced High School Students: I support more complex skills, like literary analysis, research writing, and thesis development, catering to students in English, humanities, or interdisciplinary courses.

Each session aims to make students more confident, capable, and curious about English, equipping them with skills to succeed in their academic journeys and beyond.

Rates are for online tutoring. I will not charge more to meet at the local library but may charge more to tutor at someone’s home. Not willing to travel more than 15 miles. I am reasonable in communication and will answer academic questions via text or email outside of scheduled meeting times as long as they are minimal and from students I currently work with.
