About VM
I am a PhD candidate who studies the history of steam engines.
I have two very excellent ND kids, on in middle school, one in high school. They've been on a quest to refine my tutoring skills, especially since we started homeschooling. I'm also ND myself. I spin, weave, sew, and know a lot more about Vikings than most people you meet. I have my license to drive a steam train.
I needed special ed classes and accommodations all through primary school, and I still depend on a variety of techniques and technologies to do my academic work, so I can personally guarantee that learning disabilities -- even genuinely disabling ones -- do not have to be a barrier to academic achievement.

I am a very pragmatic teacher. I generally take a student-led approach, and am happy to go with the flow, create drill-instructor level structure, or do something in between -- whatever gets you where you need to go today. My goal is to make things that have felt hard in the past feel easier, but I am not above insisting on hard work or rigorous practice.
I have a lot of experience problem-solving for atypical students, including those who need to pass formal assessments despite poor access to accommodations, or who need explicit teaching of the "hidden" curriculum. I am particularly familiar with the needs of gifted and autistic (and both) students, and am also deeply familiar with the situation where a gifted student has found themself behind due to poor fit in school.
Happy to facilitate accelerated learning whether it is for catch-up or reach-ahead.
