About Jan
I am a passionate historian, with a particular soft spot for the Medieval Mediterranean. I am keen to share my knowledge and experience and to help students understand the intricacies of historical events as well as their continued impact and relevance today.
Aside from the UK, I have lived in Belgium, Italy, Portugal, and the US, and I often travel in the Mediterranean and the Middle East for research.

My online sessions take the form of a discussion about reading and visual materials I will provide in advance. You decide on the focus of each session. The session's aim is for you to better understand the topic, as well as to know how and where to find more information.
Sessions can also take the form of an essay workshop in which we explore how to research a topic and how to structure and write an essay.
I have taught both undergraduate and postgraduate courses at Universities in Canterbury, London, Cambridge, and Leicester.
