About Jean-Philippe
I have nearly completed my Master's degree from Memorial University, with a research focus on American politics. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan, with a double major in Sociology and International Studies. In high school, I tutored several students in French. As an undergraduate, I led a full semester-long university course on social class, which gave me even more significant experience with teaching college-level material. In my time at Memorial, I have been a Graduate Student Assistant for 3 semesters, and have experience helping students with papers, leading discussions, and giving lectures.

To me, the most important component of a class is making sure that my students are comfortable and engaged. I am not a stickler for rules and have no problem taking extra time on a subject to make sure that everyone understands the material. That being said, I expect students to be active and engaged. I don't want to waste my time or that of the students, and I find that the combination of legitimately high expectations for students to perform at whatever level they are capable with a jovial and engaging atmosphere is the best way to have a successful lesson.
