Find out more about Adineh

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in English and language learning began early, as I was always fascinated by how language shapes thought, identity, and culture. This curiosity led me to pursue advanced study, culminating in a PhD in Literature and Media Studies. Over time, I discovered that private tutoring was the most meaningful way to apply this knowledge. One-on-one teaching allows me to truly understand each learner’s needs and support their progress in a focused, personal way. Seeing students gain confidence and independence in English is what motivates me most.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach English across a wide range of areas: academic writing, reading comprehension, speaking and communication skills, grammar, exam preparation (including IELTS/PTE), and English for everyday and professional contexts. I especially enjoy helping students develop critical thinking, express ideas clearly, and build confidence in speaking and writing.
I also enjoy discussing literature, media, and real-world topics that make learning meaningful. There isn’t anything I “dislike” teaching, but I find students benefit most when lessons move beyond memorisation and focus on understanding and practical use.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, I was fortunate to have teachers who treated language as a tool for thinking and self-expression rather than just a school subject. Their enthusiasm, patience, and belief in students’ potential inspired me to follow a similar path. They showed me that a good teacher doesn’t just deliver content—they build confidence and open opportunities.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor needs empathy, patience, adaptability, and strong subject knowledge. Equally important is the ability to listen and personalise learning. Every student has different goals, strengths, and challenges, so effective tutoring means adjusting strategies and explanations to suit the individual. Encouragement and clear communication are also key to helping students stay motivated and see their progress.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

As a language learner myself, I remember how difficult it was at first to speak confidently, even when I understood grammar and vocabulary. What changed everything was a teacher who encouraged discussion rather than perfection. That experience shaped how I teach today: I prioritise confidence and communication first, because once students feel safe to express themselves, improvement follows naturally.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

Learning and teaching language comes with constant challenges. As a learner, I had to overcome fear of making mistakes and adapt to different cultural contexts of communication. As a teacher, the challenge is meeting diverse learner needs—students may struggle with confidence, motivation, or specific skills. I address this by tailoring lessons, setting achievable goals, and building a supportive learning environment.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My greatest passion is helping people use language as a tool for opportunity—whether that means academic success, career advancement, or feeling confident in a new country. I’m especially passionate about working with ESL learners and supporting them in building both linguistic skills and self-confidence.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

I bring a combination of academic expertise, practical teaching experience, and genuine care for my students’ progress. With a PhD background and years of teaching English, I understand both theory and real-world application. I focus on personalised learning, clear outcomes, and building confidence—so students don’t just improve their English, they become independent, capable learners.
