About Ian
As an enthusiastic tutor for high school students, I have a love for math, chemistry, and history and would like to be able to help students develop skills and confidence in their knowledge. I truly believe all students can be successful as long as they are taught and encouraged in the right manner.
Through my passion, I have accomplished many things throughout my few years in high school. I currently have a 4.0 unweighted GPA while having an A+ in all the courses that I am offering to teach. I was selected as one of the eight participants to participate in the ACS (American Chemistry Society) competition to represent our school. Our school, Valencia, was able to get fifth place in our region with myself being the second highest scorer on our team. In addition, I am an active participant on the Academic Decathlon team as well. This was my first year and I won a total of 11 different medals including one for math. At our county competition, our school was second place with myself being the highest scorer in my division while also receiving a 700 dollar prize. At states, we were able to get second in division two as well.
The key to my tutoring philosophy lies within my desire to create an encouraging and comforting environment for the student. Instead of memorizing things, I prefer to teach the student why certain ideas work and how they can do the work on their own and become confident in their answers when doing tests in class.
Being a student myself, I can relate to some of the issues students may face in class and explain things accordingly. With my experience, I will always be reliable, prepared, and patient throughout all sessions and try to adapt to the specific student as well.
Some courses I teach are Algebra, Algebra 2, Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, and AP European History at the high school and middle school levels.

I'm a high school student who has a strong passion for subjects such as math and chemistry. I strive and love to help students understand the concepts instead of just memorizing them. My goal is to make difficult topics simple and approachable. I try to adapt to the student while breaking down large ideas into more simple ones. I also try to connect with my student in some way to make their learning experience more enjoyable and relatable.
A typical lesson plan would include:
-Reviewing homework and preparing for tests
-Explaining confusing concepts
-Practice problems
-Reviewing mistakes
-Independent work time with guidance
Since I am currently a high school student as well, I understand the difficulty and experiences for classes, tests, and overall school life because I am experiencing the same struggles. I can try to explain these struggles in a less intimidating and relatable way with patience and encouragement.
I tutor middle schoolers and high schoolers who need assistance in General Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and AP European History.

Ian is one of my classmates in high school, and he is one of the smartest people that I know. He is always extremely responsible and manages time efficiently. Whenever, I ask him for help with assignments or homework, instead of just giving me the answers, he tries to teach me by providing step-by-step instructions. I feel like I have learned so much from him!
