About Myles

Hi! My name is Myles, but most people call me MJ. I’m a passionate, reliable, and experienced tutor who’s dedicated to helping students feel confident in their learning. Whether you need help understanding a tricky concept, organizing your thoughts for an essay, or simply building better study habits, I’m here to support you every step of the way. I’ve worked with students of all ages, from young kids just learning to read to high schoolers preparing for exams or refining their writing skills. I adapt my teaching style to fit your learning needs—whether you're a visual learner, need things broken down step by step, or just want someone patient to guide you through the process. I'm especially experienced with younger learners and students who need encouragement, extra attention, or creative ways to stay engaged. What sets me apart is my ability to connect with students through empathy, creativity, and clear communication. I approach every session with kindness and professionalism because I truly care about your growth. My background in theater and writing also allows me to bring energy, storytelling, and out-of-the-box thinking to our sessions—making learning both meaningful and fun. I look forward to helping you reach your goals and feel proud of your progress!

As a tutor, my goal is to create a space where students feel confident, curious, and capable. My teaching method is grounded in patience, personalized support, and active engagement. I believe students learn best when they feel heard and when lessons are connected to their real-world interests or goals. Whether it's through breaking down complex topics into bite-sized, relatable steps or using creative analogies, I always aim to make learning feel less intimidating and more empowering.

Teaching Method & Techniques

I use a student-centered approach that blends explanation, guided practice, and reflection. I adapt to each student’s learning style—visual, auditory, or kinesthetic—and use a combination of:

Socratic questioning to encourage critical thinking

Scaffolding (gradually increasing difficulty)

Real-life examples or storytelling to make abstract ideas stick

Frequent check-ins to ensure understanding and reduce overwhelm

A Typical Lesson Plan

Check-in (5 minutes): See how the student is doing and recap previous material

Goal-setting (5 minutes): Define what we’ll tackle today and why it matters

Instruction (15-20 minutes): Introduce or review the topic with interactive examples

Practice (15 minutes): Work through problems or writing prompts together

Reflection & Wrap-up (5 minutes): Go over takeaways and identify next steps or areas to revisit

What Sets Me Apart

What makes me different is my blend of empathy, creativity, and communication. I don’t just teach content—I care about building confidence and encouraging a growth mindset. Because of my background in theater and writing, I’m especially good at helping students express themselves clearly, stay motivated, and find their voice—even in academic settings. I also have experience working with younger students and underserved communities, so I understand the importance of flexibility, encouragement, and cultural awareness.

Who My Lessons Are For

My tutoring is ideal for:

Middle and high school students in English, writing, reading comprehension, social studies, and basic science

Students who need extra support with focus, time management, or confidence-building

Emerging writers looking to strengthen their voice, essays, or creative projects

ELL (English Language Learners) or students who benefit from patient and engaging instruction

No matter the subject, I aim to make every student feel supported and capable of success.
