About Avishan
I am not a native Spanish speaker, but Spanish is one of my greatest joys and passions in life. I studied the language and Spanish-speaking culture in school for 18 years, and I have spent my adult life immersing myself in the culture and practicing my speaking and listening skills relentlessly. As of 2024, I have taught high school Spanish for 8 years as well as AP Spanish for 4 of those years. I have also served as the Modern Language Department chair for a total of 4 years at two different schools, where I have helped to implement proficiency-based grading and methods. I have my BA and MA in Spanish and a minor in Education, and I was part of a Peruvian family for 8 years. My current students are both native and non-native speakers, many of whom have native languages other than English. I love engaging with my students in the process of learning, and I find constant joy in my work. I would be happy to share some of that joy with you and work with you to reach your Spanish language goals.

¡Hola! Me llamo Avishan. I am a Spanish teacher and a forever-student. My lessons for you are personalized and culturally relevant. I have been writing my own curriculum for 8 years, so I will gladly and quickly develop a study plan according to your needs. I will teach you high frequency vocabulary in various scenarios. I can help you improve your skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing through a variety of drills, activities and forms of instruction. I studied Spanish linguistics at UC Berkeley so I can also help you with pronunciation and regional dialects. My Master's degree program in Spanish gave me valuable cultural and historical knowledge, as well as research and writing skills that I would be happy to share with you as well. My teaching style is compassionate, patient and fun. I hope you'll consider taking a lesson or two with me! ¡Gracias!

Perfect! I took my first Spanish lesson with Avi and the experience has been exceptional. She is not only incredibly knowledgeable but also patient and engaging, which makes learning fun and effective.
