About John
I graduated from Victoria University College of Education in 2015, then spent five years teaching in Wellington and am currently a relief teacher in Napier. Friendly and patient, my students often tell me that my teaching style helps them learn. Over the years I have had plenty of experience tutoring both online and in person.
As a high school student I often found myself slower to grasp difficult concepts in maths, and was often shy to ask for help, thinking that a teacher's brief explanation would still leave me clueless, as it often did. But I had an older cousin who patiently worked with me and eventually gave me the confidence to easily solve problems I never thought I could. This resulted in me eventually becoming a maths teacher - something I would not have dreamed of, and doing the same for others - bringing confidence in a subject they did not have any, or helping the already confident to excel further.

Maths is a subject that often doesn't come to students easily. It builds on the foundations of prior learning, and takes a lot of practice.
Students need a tutor who is patient and can identify the background knowledge that is missing, and clearly teach what is needed.
I work with students to do just that, looking at questions which bring out a student's understanding and paving the way forward for their success.
