About Joshua
I am a passionate mature age psychology student at La Trobe University. Minoring in neuroscience and philosophy with a current weighted average mark across all subjects of >85%.
I am a passionate and empathetic tutor who specialises in teaching by journeying with my students, whatever their age, cultural perspective or academic level.
I am currently working as a research assistant on a vision consciousness PhD thesis. I am also the founder and president of the meditation club at La Trobe. I plan on commencing a combined master’s PhD program focusing on consciousness and its clinical applications once I complete my undergraduate degree.
My hobbies and interests include reading, meditation, hiking, rock climbing and Warhammer 40k.
I also volunteer as a Scout leader at Heidelberg 1st Scout Group.

Health & Safety:
I take the safety of my students very seriously. I hold the mental wellbeing of my students as the most important and first step. I also hold a valid Working With Children Check (WWC), as required under Australian regulations.
Teaching Pedagogy/Philosophy:
Drawing from my background in psychology, I firmly hold that productive learning originates from self belief and critical thought. True understanding and the ability to solve problems can only materialise when we are equipped to recognise them. Therefore, I seek to teach through the eyes and world view of each individual student. My goal is to grasp their unique viewpoint, and journey with them teaching and problem-solving in a manner that resonates with their mind and perspective.
Tutoring, like any form of teaching, is a reciprocal journey. It necessitates communication between the tutor and the student, enabling mutual learning and growth. This means that both myself and the student share mutual responsibility for student outcomes. I take pride in continually refining my tutoring skills with each new student.
Experience:
I've been providing tutoring services for more than three years, concurrently with my studies.
Availability:
Considering my study commitments and existing tutoring responsibilities, I can only accept a limited number of new students each semester. To avoid disappointment, I kindly request that you reach out to me well ahead of any upcoming exams or project deadlines.
Length:
Tutoring sessions usually last between 60 and 120 minutes. This length allows for a meaningful learning experience without leading to fatigue. Less than an hour is often insufficient for substantial learning, while more than two hours can compromise effectiveness due to fatigue.

Lastly, but most importantly, a tutor's role is underpinned by care - a care that's delivered with curiosity and kindness. It's not just about imparting knowledge, but genuinely caring about growing the minds of my students.

Perfect! So far we've only had one tutoring session with Josh, with another imminent. He has already started building a good rapport with my teenaged son, and myself. Josh has an open-minded approach, aiming to foster a joy of learning: perfectly suited to our homeschooling context. He seems genuine, caring, and perceptive. He also has a strong grasp of teaching strategy and planning, as shown during several emails and phone calls to help get started and map out our needs. Thanks to Superprof for their flexible platform which gives us the freedom to choose! I must have looked at 100 profiles, and closely read through a dozen with my son, before choosing to approach Josh.

Not only is Joshua, extremely articulate unintelligible. He has also naturally empathetic and able to teach to the human individual.
