About Mercedes
As an adolescent I learned the skill of art therapy through caring for my kid brother who has cerebral palsy. Since then it has been my belief that art is healing and integral to helping one become more at peace with themselves. I have experience with neurodivergent and disabled children, but am open to working with teenagers and adults.
Ever since I was a child I have been immersed in fine arts. I have 8 years of experience doing theatre, drawing, and painting, and have won numerous awards for each at the state level. I would love to share my knowledge in any way I can.

An important thing to note about these lessons is that they can get extremely personal depending on what the student wants to express and let out with their pieces.
I like to take an informal approach during these sessions as I expect the student to take the lead. Their emotions should steer the direction of the lesson as well as what types of art they would like to learn. There will be a lot of talking during the sessions, and I will only step in to teach a technique if asked by the student.
IMPORTANT: It is necessary for the parent and child to be present during the first lesson (consultation) as it will enable us to see if we are a good fit. It will also allow us to discuss expectations and needs, to make sure the client is getting the results they want.
