• Can you tell us about your first experience using a computer?

  Like all youngsters, I was drawn towards computers. However, in those days computers were not very easy to use. Still managed to get hold of Sinclair ZX Spectrum and asked it the question which was baffling for a long time. What was the weekday when I was born? and then used it for all siblings, friends, and parents.

• What is the technological evolution that has marked you most and what will be, in your eyes, a turning point in this field?

  I think the advent of WSIWYG marked a sharp rise in using computers. Windows was the one that brought the computers to IBM-compatible machines which meant that the computers were affordable and user friendly.
  The next big thing is as we can see Artificial Intelligence. If you ask more specifically, I think the ability of machines to use causal reasoning in developing classifier outputs will change the game and it would be amazing.

• Explain your expertise, your interest in it and, more broadly, its importance in the computer world.

  I am a researcher in the area of Artificial Intelligence and also an entrepreneur. The idea is to solve real problems by building intelligence into machines.

• Do so-called 'visionaries', such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg inspire you or do you have other role models?

  People like Donald Knuth, Judea Pearl, Bjarne Stroustup, and Linus Travolds are my icons and role models. These people have rocked the IT world and given new vistas for us to explore. Stroustrup's C++ raised a dragon which was harnessed by people like Linus who built an operating system that competed with the corporate proprietary software. It gave birth to an open-source ecosystem that has impacted every major innovation in the past four decades. Donald Knuth and Judea Pearl have been laying the foundations of computer science, which enabled the whole revolution

• What would you say to an uncomfortable person in front of a screen who says that "IT is too complicated"?

  Yes, it is if we look at it as a whole. However, if we break it down into small chunks then create the bigger picture and it is a very beautiful picture.

• What are your other passions, related or non-related to computers?

  I am passionate about Science Fiction. It gives hope that the future will be amazing and awesome.

• What makes you a Superprof in IT?

  I would say that one always learns and if one professes that knowledge in a superb manner one becomes a Superprof eventually. Teaching is a beautiful way to learn from others. When you convey the knowledge to a new person you learn something new.
