About Melissa
I have formally studied Spanish for 5 years. Apart from my educational experience I am heritage speaker which means I wasn't born in my parents' country of origin but I grew up in a home where the dominant language was Spanish. The language comes easily for me and my goal is to help tutees get a fuller understanding of the Spanish language and cultures.

In past tutoring experience when I am meeting a student for the first time I always like to ask them about how they feel about the subject and what aspects of language are they having trouble with. This ranges from a list of things like forming basic sentences, creating dialog, read, writing or the concept that is being introduced in the classroom. Then we proceed to what kinds of notes, books and resources are they using. I ask to see their notes to examine the way they take notes. Finally I will reiterate the concept in a few different ways so that the students can hear it and see it in writing and examples that they might put in their notes. At the end of the session I would go through an overview of what we had discussed and give them exercises that might be helpful and correspond to what was just taught.
