About Michael
My name is Michael Andrew Frank. I am married and have six children ranging in ages from 19-32 years old. One of my sons is a soldier in the US. Army. Since 2002 when I retired from the US Army, I began work as a teacher at a Charter School in Leland, NC. During that first year, I implemented the first Physical Education Program and taught Spanish to 3rd and 4th graders. The school added 5th grade in 2003 and I was chosen as the first 5th grade teacher at the school. 100% of my students passed the North Carolina End of Grade test in 2004, 96% passed this test in 2005, and 100% in 2006. In 2004, with the need of more extra-curricular activities at the school, I started and taught the Martial Arts Program at the school. In 2005, I was instrumental in bringing Pop Warner Little League Football to the school and I coached the 7, 8, and 9 years old students to a 4-3 record in our first year. From 2006-2008, I taught middle school mathematics in New Hanover and Brunswick Counties in Southeastern North Carolina. From 2008 until 2015, I was employed as an administrator in the positions of Associate Superintendent of Curriculum, Headmaster, and Head of Academics and Curriculum all at the Roger Bacon Academy, an Educational Management Organization (EMO).
During my 19 years in the Education Field, I finished three and one-half years of graduate school with a Middle School math certification and graduated in November of 2012 from a Masters Degree Program in Administration and Supervision in the Graduate College of Education at American Military University. I served as head of Curriculum for Roger Bacon Academy, an education management organization consisting of four schools.
Prior to my teaching career, I retired honorably as a Master Sergeant from the United States Army after twenty years of service. I was a career Linguist and Interrogator and attended 4 different Spanish Schools, including the prestigious Defense Language Institute in Monterrey. California. Additionally, I learned the German and Portuguese Languages. During my career in the military, I served in the most tactical elite units, from the 82nd Airborne Division and Special Forces, to strategic assignments briefing ambassadors and CIA, Chiefs of Station in embassies around the world. I served as a Senior Instructor for 4 years in an elite Special Operations Unit, teaching soldiers everything from how to survive in combat to how to use Microsoft Word Program on a computer. I received the Army's highest level clearance, a Top Secret Clearance with a Special Background Investigation (SBI). I was selected and served in every leadership position from Squad Leader to First Sergeant. I volunteered for every assignment during my career in the Army. I attended college while in the military and received a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts from Regents College. I am a certified instructor in HapKido and Taekwondo, both of which I have been studying and teaching for over 30 years.

At the k-5 level of math, I emphasize organization for the student. I teach students ways to do problems in a straight forward manner so they can practice and repeat the processes. Students at this level need structure and organization to create a math foundation.
At middle school level, while student continue to develop good habits, they transition from rote memory to more thinking and analysis of math problems.
For a elementary school student, the beginning of a lesson would be learning math facts with a goal of all 3rd graders and above knowing multiplication tables 0-9. with math facts I use a program that allows students to learn at their own pace.
The main part of the lesson would then be taught, practiced, and mastered to ensure that every student masters the lesson for that day. Any homework will be to reinforce the lesson for that day. The lessons will be in small digestible chunks to ensure mastery in time alotted.
