About Zhuyang
Zhuyang Liu is a famous Guzheng musician, composer, sound engineer, and producer with a rich background in both traditional and contemporary music. Encouraged at a young age by Zhou Xin, virtuoso of the Guzheng Northern sect and member of the National Orchestra of China Broadcasting Art Troupe, Zhuyang developed a deep passion for Chinese string instruments. Specialising in the 21-string Guzheng, 16 steel-string Guzheng, and the Multi-tone Guzheng, Zhuyang continuously explores other plucked string instruments such as the Guqin, Duxianqin, and Koto. A winner of the second prize in solo and first prize in ensemble performance at the 2013 China-Japan-Korea International Guzheng Conference. Active in London/China's music scenes, played with Grammy award musicians, as musician played Guzheng in famous film and video games.
Zhuyang’s work embodies a seamless fusion of ethnic tradition and contemporary experimentation. Zhuyang’s approach to music is profoundly creative, encouraging students to begin their musical journey by exploring new ideas and perspectives. Every lesson offers a safe, relaxed, and open space where students can comfortably express themselves. By blending fundamental techniques with innovative musical practices, Zhuyang fosters a learning environment that promotes both discipline and freedom. Zhuyang’s confluent cultural background and experiences in multidisciplinary fields has created a provocative combination of ethnic insights and contemporary dialogue in their works and vision. The extreme playing of the reconstructed instruments immerses with the electronic acoustics moving in parallel across the soundscape. Features elements of Jazz fusion, dub, drum & bass, ambient, oriental, and tribal.
Recent performance including British museum, Hundred Years Gallery, Frappant e.V. gallery, Hamburg/Staffordshire St, London//San Mei Gallery, London/SYSTEM, Shanghai/Matchstick Piehouse, London etc.
From 2022-2023, Zhuyang scored, sound designed independent film ‘NOW, THEN- 5.1 channel audio’, “Run! Dorothy Run!” scored and sound directed multiple projects of fashion collections and runways, following by multiple physical CD releases. Zhuyang’s UK & China based project include: collective ‘Lao San Yang’, ‘Epic life doggerel verse’. Zhuyang’s extreme playing of the reconstructed instruments immerses the viewer in a romantic playroom while discovering fictional narratives moving in parallel across the soundscape. "absurd and dramatic" of the works came from the occult context of the instruments while the causes of the sound are challenged by its physicality. ZHUYANGER 撞, is a hybrid project system of Zhuyang Liu. Audiences are sobered up by world-infused sound, and deliriously poetic language while the fusion of chordophone with electronica grooves the brains.

Zhuyang Liu is a famous Guzheng musician, composer, sound engineer, and producer with a rich background in both traditional and contemporary music. Zhuyang's practice experiencing spoken word, poem, new way of playing traditional instruments, reconstructed instruments. Offering new visions for leaners to understand music, Chinese culture , composing , instrument and skills.
For beginners (Ages 4+) Are you ready to explore the beauty of the Guzheng, one of China's most iconic string instruments, with a contemporary approach? I am a professional musician, composer, music producer specialising in Guzheng, with 20 years of experience, holding a Level 10 Professional Certificate and a background in Experimental Music & Performance.
But most importantly is to feel the instrument and flow with it. No matter the melody or tones, everything is from the single touch of that string, and then you could draw your noises and landscapes by this beautiful instrument. In these 1-hour mini lessons, we will: Learn the basics: I’ll guide you through essential skills and techniques, ensuring a solid foundation. Experience creativity: From improvisation to exploring the techniques, deep listening, you’ll discover new ways to express yourself through music. Feel the instrument: More than just playing notes, you’ll connect deeply with the instrument, learning to let each touch create its own landscape of sound. No matter your personal goals, I tailor each lesson to your unique journey. Whether you’re looking for traditional studies with etudes or want to dive into improvisation and sound exploration, together, we will create a path that suits your musical aspirations. I'm looking into the personal needs of every student of mine, what brings them here, what's our goal for the class, and how are we going to get there, step by step.
