About Livia
I discovered my passion for guitar early in life, which led me to pursue a B.Mus in Guitar Performance followed by an M.Mus in Contemporary Music Education. Over 8 years, I have taught learners at all levels, from beginners developing their first chord to advanced students refining intricate techniques and expressive artistry. My teaching philosophy emphasizes individualized guidance, patience, and encouragement, helping each student unlock their full potential and musical identity.
My lessons integrate technical exercises, repertoire practice, improvisation, and performance coaching. I focus on tone, phrasing, stylistic nuance, and expressive interpretation while cultivating independence and creativity. Ensemble work, composition, and improvisational challenges are included to foster versatility and strengthen musical understanding.
Outside teaching, I perform regularly, collaborate with other musicians, and explore diverse musical styles to continually refresh my perspective. Bringing these experiences into lessons provides real-world context, inspiration, and motivation for students. Witnessing learners evolve from tentative beginners into confident, expressive guitarists is profoundly rewarding. My mission is to nurture technically skilled, creatively expressive, and confident musicians who love and explore music deeply.

Guitar lessons are most effective when students build technical skill while developing a personal musical voice. I focus on finger dexterity, chord progressions, scales, improvisation, strumming and picking techniques, tone shaping, phrasing, and stylistic interpretation. Lessons are structured to be engaging, combining hands-on practice, creative exercises, and repertoire study in a supportive environment that encourages curiosity, experimentation, and self-expression.
Beginners start with fundamental skills, including proper hand positioning, basic chords, simple strumming patterns, and initial melodies to form a solid foundation. Intermediate learners expand into fingerstyle techniques, improvisation, solo phrasing, chord embellishments, and ensemble collaboration, refining both technical accuracy and musical interpretation. Advanced students focus on complex compositions, improvisational fluency, stylistic versatility, performance preparation, and stage presence. Each lesson includes personalized guidance, reflective exercises, and constructive feedback to ensure continuous growth and deeper musical understanding.
Guitar study also fosters creativity, confidence, and emotional expression. Students not only gain technical ability but learn to communicate ideas, convey mood, and develop interpretive insight. Many learners explore composition, improvisation, and ensemble playing, building a versatile skill set. My goal is to cultivate musicians who combine precision, artistry, and confidence, while enjoying music as both a craft and a creative outlet.
