About Gus
Gus Defelice is an internationally acclaimed musician specialising in Metal, Progressive, and Hard Rock genres. With a prominent presence in the mainstream music scene and two albums to his credit, I have written hundreds of riffs and solos for numerous musicians. I firmly believe that everyone possesses an Inner Musician voice, and my primary goal is to help you discover your unique Music Soul. Regardless of your current stage in your music career, I aim to provide you with the best advice to propel you to the next level. Lessons will be conducted via Zoom or, depending on the situation, in my well-equipped home production studio. The first lesson is complimentary and will serve as the foundation for our journey together. During this session, we will determine the direction and focus needed to develop you into a formidable Metal, Rock, or Progressive artist.

My teaching method is built around control, awareness, and long-term growth, not shortcuts or random exercises.
I work mainly with metal, progressive, death and black metal guitarists who feel stuck despite practicing a lot. Most of the time, the problem is not talent or motivation, but how practice is structured and how the body interacts with the instrument.
Lessons are fully personalized. There is no “one-size-fits-all” program.
How a Typical Lesson Works
Each lesson follows a clear structure:
1. Physical setup & posture
We start by checking posture, guitar position, right- and left-hand mechanics. Small physical errors often limit speed, endurance, and precision. Correcting these changes everything.
2. Mechanics & technique
We work on:
- Picking efficiency (alternate, economy, synchronization)
- Left-hand independence and control
- Muting, articulation, string noise management
Everything is adapted to your anatomy and musical goals.
3. Musical application
Technique is always applied to real music:
- Riffs
- Solos
Songs from bands you love
This avoids sterile exercises and keeps motivation high.
4. Mental focus & pressure control
Metal requires control under pressure. We train:
- Playing clean at tempo
- Managing tension
- Staying focused when speed increases
5. Practice strategy
I give you a clear, realistic practice plan tailored to your available time, so you know exactly what to practice and why between lessons.
What Makes My Method Different
1) No YouTube-style confusion: no endless exercises without context
2) Body-aware approach: technique starts from how you move, not just what you play
3) Professional mindset: precision, consistency, and musical intention
4) Depth over quantity: fewer exercises, better results
Real metal focus: extreme genres require specific skills that generic guitar methods ignore
Who These Lessons Are For
- Guitarists into Progressive Metal, Death Metal, Black Metal, Thrash
- Players who feel stuck at a technical or musical plateau
- Students who want control, clarity, and real progress
- Anyone serious about improving, not just “learning songs”
Lesson Format
Lessons take place in person in my London studio, in a focused and professional environment.
The first session is also used to analyze your current level and define a clear direction.
My goal is not to make you “practice more”, but to make you practice better — and finally unlock the level you’re aiming for.

Perfect! I love the way Gus teaches! It was detailed and well-structured. As I am a completely new beginner, Gus taught everything slowly and with patience. I really appreciate that. Also, he would carefully notice the small errors that I made when playing and recommend very effective exercises to correct them. Apart from these, I also enjoyed just talking with Gus as he is very knowledgeable and passionate about music, especially metal music.
