About Guillermo
I'm Guillermo, a physicist and mathematician. I've just completed a Master's in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics at the University of Oxford, graduating with Distinction, having studied quantum field theory, general relativity, conformal field theory and group representations.
Before Oxford I read Physics at the Autonomous University of Madrid and Computer Science at the Pontifical University of Salamanca, finishing both with high honours. I've worked in research groups at the Institute for Theoretical Physics and the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands, and I've co-authored two peer-reviewed papers, one on the quasinormal modes of black holes and one on control systems for the European Solar Telescope.
I'm at the start of my tutoring career, which I'd rather state plainly than dress up. What I bring to it is several years as president of a scout group, running educational activities for children and teenagers of every age and ability, and keeping their parents properly informed.
I studied entirely outside the UK until my Master's, so I understand how confusing the British system looks from abroad. I teach in English and Spanish, and I'm based in Spain with no restriction on hours.

I start by asking you to attempt a problem out loud before I explain anything. The real gap is usually not where you think it is, and the only way to find it is to hear you reason. From there I work so that you produce the next step, not me. If one explanation doesn't land, I try a different one rather than repeating the first more slowly.
Lessons run one hour, which is about as long as real concentration lasts. For exam preparation we can go to ninety minutes and include timed papers.
I teach university students in maths, physics and engineering, and sixth-formers on A Level or IB heading into science degrees. I also prepare students for the TMUA and ESAT — the admissions tests now used by Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, LSE, UCL and Warwick for Maths, Computer Science, Physics and Engineering. Worth knowing if you're applying this year: Oxford retired the MAT and the PAT, so anyone still working from those papers is preparing for a test that no longer exists. I also cover technical programming interviews.
On experience: I'm new to private tutoring and would rather say so. I've just finished a Master's in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics at Oxford with Distinction, after degrees in Physics and Computer Science in Spain, and I have two published research papers. I also spent years running a scout group, planning activities and explaining things to teenagers of every age and ability.
