About Claire
Hello! My name is Claire Gautier and I am so excited to start working with you! I am currently an 8th grade ELA teacher and love sharing my love for reading and writing with my students. Before teaching, I enjoyed working with college students on essay writing, helping them to communicate thoughts in a way that would help express their many beautiful ideas in a clear and engaging way. In my own free time, I enjoy writing blog posts for my growing number of readers. I am also writing a book that I hope to finish this year! Next year I’ll be pursuing my PhD in Education, but in the meantime I also love to sing and play guitar. I am so looking forward to getting to know you and coming with you on this adventure in becoming a better reader and writer.

I act as an informed guide. All of my students hold the book and pencils in their own hands. It is my job to ask good questions that lead to deeper thinking and teach techniques that students apply to their own reading and writing. For middle school students, we focus on how to comprehend different genres of text through genre-based thinking instruction and data-driven analysis. All of my teaching is standard-aligned and designed to help students reach proficiency both in class and on state tests. At the same time, it is equally my goal to teach students to express themselves through discussion and writing to celebrate who they are, what they know, and build on the knowledge and learning. We start every class with an objective and goal in mind that will leave students with concrete tools that they can continue to apply on their own.
