About Lauren

I have 14 years of experience in the classroom. I earned my single subject credential at California State University of Long Beach. I am halfway through the clearing process. I work at Fairmont North Tustin as an English teacher. I substitute taught for six years for the Fountain Valley School District. I have tutored for so many different places that it’s hard to keep track, but the most memorable of all of them was UC Campus in Garden Grove., that’s where I first learned how to teach. I’m reliable, trustworthy, witty, likable, and I make the time fly by. All I ask is that you do your part. Otherwise, I cannot do mine!

English

I’m not your average teacher. I’m a little eccentric, a little off, and a little too philosophical. I want you to think because I know you can. English isn’t just about grammar rules and vocab words. It’s about the whole picture: writing, reading, vocabulary, and grammar—they are all about that book. And learning how to think. It all comes down to literary analysis and building critical thinking skills. I don’t just give out worksheets and watch the time go by with my clock set by my side. We are going to have fun; you are going to like to read because you are going to start reading things that interest you first instead of what your teachers want you to read. We will get to what your teachers want you to read later. Once you start reading what you want to read, you're on your way. Reading anything is better than reading nothing. You can’t learn anything unless you read. You can’t learn vocabulary; you can’t know grammar, and you certainly can’t write that five-paragraph MLA-style essay. It's all connected. If you do your part, I will do mine. And I promise that if you do your part, you will improve in whatever is challenging to you about ELA. Moreover, you are going to learn how to think. I know it’s hard to tune out the noise of the tech distracting us, but you need to realize why your tech is preventing you from thinking so we can re-learn how to think analytically and know why it's critical. Let’s put it this way. I can’t remember the time that I had to know the angles of a triangle, but I just had to use critical thinking skills five minutes ago. That’s what English is all about. So come join me—let’s have fun and let’s go! For all you skeptical parents out there, don’t worry. I have 14 years of experience in the educational field. I’ve tutored; I’ve led a classroom; I’ve substitute taught; I’ve done everything. I am also a writer, and I’ve even written a book. I am reliable, responsible, and likable. Have your child do their part and I will do mine. That is a promise.
