About Sarah

Hi! My name is Sarah, and I am currently pursuing my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Johns Hopkins University School of Education. My academic background, combined with hands-on experience in mentoring, behavioral support, psychology, and working with children and adolescents, has helped me develop a patient, compassionate, and highly individualized teaching style.

I have experience supporting students with a wide range of learning styles, personalities, and needs, including students who benefit from additional encouragement, structure, executive functioning support, emotional regulation strategies, or confidence-building in academic settings. My background in counseling and ABA-informed approaches has strengthened my communication skills, adaptability, and ability to break down challenging concepts into manageable and engaging steps.

Beyond academics, I genuinely enjoy connecting with students and helping them feel supported, capable, and motivated. I strive to create a positive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and building confidence in themselves. I am energetic, organized, dependable, and committed to helping students grow both academically and personally.

My approach as a tutor is highly individualized, encouraging, and relationship-based. As a graduate student in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with experience in psychology, ABA-based support, mentoring, and child/adolescent development, I understand that every student learns differently. I focus not only on academic success, but also on building confidence, motivation, emotional regulation, organization skills, and a positive relationship with learning.

I strive to create lessons that are engaging, interactive, and adapted to each student’s learning style, attention span, strengths, and goals. I use a combination of visual supports, guided practice, discussion-based learning, real-world examples, creativity, and positive reinforcement to help students feel both supported and challenged. I am especially patient with students who may struggle with anxiety, attention, frustration tolerance, executive functioning, or confidence in school settings.

A typical session may include reviewing previous material, identifying current challenges, breaking concepts into manageable steps, interactive practice activities, homework support, test preparation, and ending with a confidence-building review of progress and goals. I aim to make learning feel approachable rather than overwhelming.

What sets me apart is my balance of academic support and interpersonal connection. I bring an energetic, warm, and compassionate personality while also maintaining structure, patience, and professionalism. My background in counseling and behavioral support allows me to connect with students in a way that prioritizes emotional safety, communication, encouragement, and long-term growth, not just completing assignments.

My lessons are best suited for elementary through high school students, including students who benefit from individualized support, structured guidance, study skills coaching, behavioral support strategies, or a more patient and engaging learning environment.
