About McGinnis
I help college students turn their time in school into a strong launch point for their careers.
I graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University with a degree in Finance. As a student, I navigated competitive finance recruiting myself and gained experience in investment banking at Houlihan Lokey and Taylor Advisory and in credit risk at RBC Capital Markets. At Houlihan Lokey, I earned a full-time return offer after my summer internship.
Rather than returning to banking, I chose to spend the next stage of my career working full-time in coaching and student development.
Since then, I have directly coached dozens of students and student leaders and led recruiting, leadership, and professional-development sessions for hundreds more. My work has included helping students prepare for competitive finance recruiting, improve their professional positioning, navigate internships, pursue return offers, and transition successfully from college into full-time work.
Many students approach recruiting one task at a time: fix the resume, send applications, practice interviews, and hope something works. I prefer to start with the larger strategy.
What are you trying to achieve? Which career paths fit your interests and strengths? Which experiences will make you a stronger candidate? How should you position what you've already accomplished? Which firms and roles should you prioritize?
Once those questions are answered, we can build a much more focused recruiting process around them.

I offer individualized college-to-career and finance recruiting coaching for students preparing for internships and full-time opportunities.
Sessions can focus on any stage of the recruiting process.
Recruiting strategy: Build a clear plan around target roles, firms, recruiting timelines, applications, networking, and the actions that matter most at your current stage.
Resume & LinkedIn: Strengthen your bullets, improve how you describe your experience, and position your background so recruiters can quickly understand why you are a strong candidate.
Networking: Create an outreach strategy, improve cold emails and LinkedIn messages, prepare for informational calls, and learn how to build relationships with professionals without sounding transactional.
Interview preparation: Prepare for behavioral and fit interviews, strengthen your personal story, practice common questions, and receive direct feedback on your communication and delivery. I do not offer technical interview preparation.
Career exploration: Compare potential career paths, including finance roles, and think through your interests, strengths, values, and priorities before committing to a recruiting path.
Internship preparation & return offers: Prepare for an upcoming internship, think through how to approach the experience, improve your chances of performing well, and evaluate return offers or competing opportunities.
College-to-career planning: Decide how to use your remaining time in college strategically—from internships and extracurriculars to networking and recruiting—so that your activities support the career you are trying to build.
A typical session starts with your current situation and the most important problem you need to solve. We work through that problem together and finish with concrete next steps.
My goal is to help you approach recruiting deliberately rather than reactively and eventually develop the skills to navigate future career decisions on your own.

I’ve known McGinnis for two years at Georgetown, and I couldn’t recommend him enough for career guidance. As a freshman hoping to break into corporate finance, I didn’t know where to begin, but he helped me structure my approach step by step, from organizing my outreach and building technical skills to understanding firm culture and learning how to tell my story. His advice was always practical and sincere. I still remember when he told me to approach interviews by asking why each opportunity mattered to me, which completely changed how I thought about recruiting. After speaking with many professionals and upperclassmen, I realized his advice helped me stand out by making my story more personal and grounded. I’m grateful for everything he’s done, and I know others will benefit just as much.
I met McGinnis early in my time at Georgetown, and he quickly became someone I trusted for honest, thoughtful guidance. One of our first real conversations was about what I wanted out of college, and from that point on, he helped me think through my personal, social, and professional goals in a way that felt specific and meaningful. What stood out most wasn’t just his experience, like transferring schools, leading organizations, or studying abroad, but how seriously he listened and how much he genuinely cared. He never just gives answers; he helps you ask the right questions and figure things out for yourself. He strikes a rare balance—someone who is experienced and professional, but also approachable and genuinely invested in your growth. I recommend him to anyone looking for perspective, clarity, and guidance they can trust.
McGinnis took a focused, individualized, and impactful approach to supporting me through a late-career job transition. With decades of experience behind me, I felt unsure of how to pivot into a new role that aligned with how I wanted to finish my career.
He helped me identify the traits that had made me successful over the years and showed me how to clearly communicate those strengths in a way that resonated with employers in a completely different industry. Talking about yourself is never easy, especially later in life, but McGinnis made it comfortable and effective.
I’m now three months into what I consider my twilight career, and I couldn’t be more pleased. I highly recommend working with McGinnis, whether you’re just starting out or making a major change like I did.McGinnis helped me apply to graduate programs in the U.S., and the experience was truly eye-opening. He helped me reflect on my motivations, identify meaningful experiences, and express myself with confidence, all while making the process much more enjoyable and less stressful.
He listens carefully and helps you turn your personal story into something unique and powerful. I not only got into the top schools I wanted (i.e., Duke, Boston University, and Northeastern), but I also developed skills I’ll use for future job applications and interviews.
If you want to stand out in a competitive admissions process and show why schools should choose you, McGinnis is the person to guide you.View more recommendations
