• 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  I always had an interest to learn, ever since I was very young, and I think that passion for my subjects is partly why I decided to begin private tutoring. I feel very lucky with my upbringing and I'm proud of what I've achieved, yet I know not everyone is as fortunate - whether it be instability at home or teaching conditions, etc - and so part of me wants to try and give my students the attention they might've mussed out on.

• 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

  I love when my students are as interested in the subjects as I am, and I do my best to make our lessons exciting. I find inquisitive students always learn the best, but I do my best to find what interests them the most (academic or not) in order to build a fun relationship with them.

• 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

  I was lucky enough to have some brilliant teachers growing up, namely my year 7 RE teacher (Mrs Bailey) who had that quality that just inspired everyone in her class.

• 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  From my experience as a GCSE and A-level student, my most memorable teachers were the ones who were especially passionate to their subject and understood what the exam board required for our exam. I do my best to embody these characteristics with my students as I know how effective they are in inspiring a student to take interest and learn the subject I'm teaching.

• 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  Maths

• 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

  Everyone has struggled in school one time or another. In my case I was always behind in English and other 'essay writing' subjects all the way through primary school. However, I worked extremely hard throughout secondary school and by the end of year 11 I had achieved a grade 9, 8 in English lit and lang respectively - showing that anyone can achieve high grades if they have the support and work ethic to do so.

• 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

  I do have a passion for teaching, whether academic or not. I am also a qualified windsurf instructor and just enjoy sharing my knowledge with others.

• 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

  My excitement to teach and my relaxed teaching style make me suited for young teenagers working through their GCSE studies.
