I'm a Functional Skills tutor of English and Maths, and have worked in education for 17 years.
I have a PGCE and my area of expertise is Maths up to Grade C at GCSE and English Grade B at GCSE. I love to help people learn and enjoy working with all ages from KS2-GCSE.
I am patient, friendly and like to add humour to my lessons, as I believe this can help someone relax and not feel as anxious.
I believe anyone can learn and think its important that learning takes place at a pace that suits the individual and believe confidence is the key.
I use resources that reflect everyday life and think its important to learn English and Maths skills that we will use in our daily lives - I feel these skills are the essentials.
I studied Criminology and Social policy at Teesside University and originally worked with young offenders ina supporting role, but then moved onto teaching English and Maths to people of all ages and walks of life - and I love it!
A good day is when I have worked with someone and they pass a qualification or tests or suddenly something they have been learning clicks into place. That's what I call a reward and I feel a huge sense of achievement for both the person- and myself- when this happens.
