About Frederick
About Me
Hi, I’m Freddie! I’m a language enthusiast who has been studying Chinese and Japanese for the past six years. I love helping people discover Chinese in a relaxed and enjoyable way, whether you’re starting from scratch or already know a little. My lessons focus on building practical communication skills through conversation, Hanzi (Chinese characters), pronunciation and plenty of immersion in the language. I also volunteer teaching English to non-English-speaking students at local colleges, so I really enjoy helping learners build confidence and become comfortable using a new language. My goal is to make Chinese feel approachable and useful from your very first lesson!

Build real confidence in Chinese through warm, immersive, conversation-focused lessons tailored to your goals and level.
From your very first lesson, you’ll begin using Chinese in practical, meaningful ways. You’ll learn Hanzi (Chinese characters) by recognising, understanding, writing, and remembering them—not by relying solely on pinyin—so you can build a stronger foundation and read with greater confidence.
We’ll use Chinese as much as possible, helping you develop natural listening and speaking skills at a comfortable pace. Through engaging, level-appropriate conversations, you’ll practise forming sentences, expressing your ideas clearly, and becoming more comfortable communicating in real situations.
You’ll receive personalised corrections, clear explanations of vocabulary and grammar, and supportive guidance to help you sound more natural. Whether you’re starting from scratch or building on existing knowledge, each lesson will help you make steady, noticeable progress towards

I’ve known Freddie for some years and have seen his fluency in Japanese improve. As a Japanese speaker myself, I am able to fluently speak Japanese with him, and he is a great teacher.
Frederick has a genuine passion for Japan, its language and culture, and this really comes across in the way he shares his knowledge with others. He is a fluent Japanese speaker and is friendly, patient and approachable, making him someone who can put learners at ease and create a relaxed and enjoyable environment.
