About Sierra
Hello! My name is Sierra. I'm a 19-year-old Freshman in college that loves to learn, teach, and anything that is related to English. English was my first choice of major until I found Developmental Psychology. I am good with all ages and am a positive person. So, what are you waiting for? Let me be your tutor! :)

Lesson Plan: English Tutoring Session By the end of the session, the student will: 1. Improve their understanding of a specific English skill (e.g., essay writing, literary analysis, grammar, or reading comprehension). 2. Apply learned concepts to a practical task (e.g., drafting an essay, analyzing a text, or revising a paragraph). 3. Gain confidence in their ability to tackle English assignments independently. Session Outline (60 minutes) 1. Warm-Up (5-10 minutes) - Activity: Quick discussion or icebreaker to assess the student’s current understanding and needs. - Example: Ask the student to share what they’re currently working on (e.g., an essay, a reading assignment, or a grammar issue). - Example: Ask, “What do you find most challenging about English assignments?” 2. Focus Skill/Concept (20-25 minutes) I typically choose one area to focus on based on the student’s needs. Here are some options: A. Essay Writing - Teach the structure of an essay (introduction, body paragraphs, conclusion). - Discuss thesis statement development and topic sentences. - Provide examples of strong vs. weak thesis statements. B. Literary Analysis - Teach how to analyze a text (theme, symbolism, character development, etc.). - Practice close reading of a short passage. - Discuss how to incorporate textual evidence into an analysis. C. Grammar and Mechanics - Review common grammar issues (e.g., subject-verb agreement, comma usage, sentence fragments). - Provide examples and practice exercises. D. Reading Comprehension - Teach active reading strategies (annotating, summarizing, questioning). - Practice analyzing a short text or excerpt together. 3. Guided Practice (15-20 minutes) - Activity: Apply the focus skill to a practical task. - For essay writing: Have the student draft a thesis statement or outline for an essay. - For literary analysis: Analyze a short poem or passage together. - For grammar: Correct errors in a sample paragraph. - For reading comprehension: Summarize a short article or story. 4. Independent Practice (10-15 minutes) - Activity: Assign a small task for the student to complete independently. - Example: Write a body paragraph, analyze a new passage, or correct grammar errors in a new text. - Provide guidance and feedback as they work. 5. Review and Q&A (5-10 minutes) - Recap the key points covered in the session. - Ask the student if they have any questions or need clarification. - Provide additional resources or tips for further practice (e.g., online grammar tools, writing guides, or reading strategies). Homework/Follow-Up (If needed): - Assign a small task for the student to complete before the next session (e.g., write a paragraph, read a short story, or revise an essay). - Encourage the student to bring specific questions or challenges to the next session. Assessment: - Observe the student’s progress during the session. - Provide constructive feedback on their work. - Adjust the next session’s focus based on their strengths and areas for improvement. This lesson plan is adaptable and can be tailored to the student’s individual goals and skill level.
