About Toby
I have been tutoring French online for a few years, I have experience teaching, giving talks on language learning, translating and subtitling, interpreting, and I run a French group of over 16,000 members. I have a degree in Italian and French and a modular online degree in neurolinguistics from St Petersburg University and am personally endorsed by Alexandre de Chambure, the tutor to the French presidential family.

I adapt my sessions to each student, depending on their level and goals. I like to focus partly on grammar, as well as expression; mostly speaking. Having gone through the language learning journey myself, I know very well the obstacles one faces when learning French and have formulated my own understanding and explanation to the language, putting these concepts across in the simplest and most effective way. Having achieved native-like fluency and a native accent, I can help you do the same, following the tools and aids that I discovered and developed during my own journey. Some of my students do an hour with me a week, others 5, it depends on your wishes! I think one hour of grammar/reading/explanation, combined with an hour of oral work is the most ideal. However, I can accommodate the students' desires.

I have been learning with Toby the past year and he's an excellent teacher, very supportive and runs engaging and helpful tutoring sessions. He tailors the sessions to help you improve your skillset and really aims to improve your french!
I couldn't recommend Toby more. He is a wonderful tutor with an extensive knowledge of language and linguistics. I am shocked by how deep his understanding of the French language is, especially as a non-native speaker. Any question I have for him is answered and explained in an easy to understand way - he can come up with examples instantaneously which always leaves me feeling more assured in my understanding. He also gives optional homework which is good for those who like to put in a little extra work around the topics of his lessons and he has documents that you can revisit in your own time for revision. I recently passed my A2 French exam and I credit him for my high grade.
