About Matthew
Hi, I'm Matt and I am a French Tutor who is Native from Birmingham in the UK. Whilst some people tend to search for a Native French speaker, I always tell students that sometimes having someone with the same or similar linguistic background as you has just as much benefit. I've had 14 years of learning and speaking the language and so I know the pitfalls of learning languages for English speakers. Don't get me started on the gendering in other languages! I studied French at University and live in Nancy, France where I was an English Assistant. Whilst in France I became a part of a French family who I still go over to visit now and they don't speak any English! After finishing my French degree I trained to be a teacher and upon completion I actually moved to my family's business. I led the Finance side of the business and had responsibility in the sales, operations and general business management. Because of my experience, I am a good choice for language learners who want to develop their French skills in a business setting as I have a great understanding as to the realities of business and we can tailor the lessons to your requirements. Immersion is the best way to learn another language. By speaking in the target language for a significant amount of our session, you will be able to develop your language skills much more quickly. As a native English speaker, I will be able to better explain the language as I have already gone through this myself, giving you a better understanding of French in relation to English. My methodology when teaching French consists of the introduction of language and grammar, the consolidation of the language and grammar introduced and then the reproduction of language and grammar. This methodology works brilliantly as a way of acclimatising to the new vocabulary or grammar and then being able to use it by the end of the session. Our session would be split to accommodate reading, writing, listening and speaking and whilst this may seem daunting, I will be there every step of the way! Whilst doing my PGCE, one criticism I had was that the syllabus was not well aimed towards students. I believe in teaching students about culture, history, literature and le monde Francophone (The French Speaking World) so that you can acquire not only language but how the French world has come to be. Matt has a great experience in language learning and this can be seen in his tutoring sessions. Because he is a native English speaker, he is a great choice for whether you want to improve your English skills or in my case if you want to improve your French and have a better grasp on the language.
On top of that, he is approachable, calm and very supportive. I couldn't recommend Matt more!!The passion Matt has towards the French language really motivated me during my lessons with him.
