About Helen
My name is Helen Pickles. I have been passionate about teaching and languages since I was a young girl! My deep love is exploring cultures and I believe language is one of the key ways into exploring another mindset and opening our minds. I believe we all need a little guidance in life to help us reach our goals! My main aim is to empower others to become their own teachers with techniques, mindset shifts and knowledge I impart, so ultimately they no longer need me :).
I am a qualified teacher of modern languages in the UK and have a bachelor of French studies from the university of nottingham. I spent 2 years teaching English in Singapore and a further 2 years teaching French in the UK. I have since been teaching online and travelling the world. I now live in Pisac, Peru.

I like to combine a mixture of planning and spontaneity in my teaching. My 7 years experience as a language teacher (both in schools, online and in private 121 tutoring) as well as a 2.1 bachelor of arts in French studies, have provided me with an outline of the basics I need to teach:
- Grammar
- Structure of sentences
- Tenses
- Writing, reading, listening and speaking for exams
- Translation
...with this in mind, I also like to discuss specific goals with my student to ensure we are working towards long term, mid term and short term aims.
Then, I add a bit of flow and spontaneity: what is being asked for in the moment? Can we stop and look at a small piece of grammar? Do we just need to work on building confidence today?
My teaching styles is holistic, thorough and fun. We reach goals and we enjoy the process.
