About Matt
Hi! I’m Matt and I’m a final year student at the University of Birmingham, reading French and Music. I've just come back from spending 9 months in France for my year abroad. Being a student myself, I know what I would want out of tuition – sessions that improve and strengthen my existing knowledge, whilst providing something alternative to school lessons – therefore my tuition involves engaging learning techniques that I myself still use at university and which I know helped me throughout my school career, in a structured format.
I love working with other people, being heavily involved in extra-curricular activities at university and having directed multiple music groups at school, and I aim to bring that same enthusiasm to tuition, whether that be online or in-person. One of the most important aspects of learning to me is enjoyability, and that is why I will endeavour to make every session as interesting as possible, ensuring that we can work on material in a way that aligns with what you find most appealing about the subject, whilst keeping it entirely relevant to your schoolwork.
For French students – Having been on two exchanges to France in the past, and having lived and studied in the South of France for my Year Abroad, I have a very good grip of the language and a strong understanding of the culture. I like to combine these two aspects of ‘Frenchness’ in my tuition to give a multi-dimensional learning experience.
For Music students – I play the Trumpet and the Piano, as well as being a keen Singer. I pride myself on having a broad musical taste, listening to anything from Billy Joel to Claude Debussy, with a fair amount of Musical Theatre chucked in for good measure. I hope my passion for all things musical will inspire you in your learning and add an extra layer to your musical knowledge.

I know Matt through university as a fellow student, and I have also worked with him in a production team for an amateur musical theatre show. Matt is a very enthusiastic and committed person, who brings positivity to every situation, and communicates and listens well to others. He is an approachable team player, and his encouraging and patient nature makes others feel comfortable around him. When we worked together on the show, he created a light-hearted yet focused atmosphere in rehearsals, inspiring the cast to work hard, which resulted in effective teaching of music whilst also making it fun for everyone involved. Overall, I would highly recommend Matt as a tutor because he will make learning an engaging and enjoyable experience.
