About Finlay
I’m a fourth-year Mathematics student at the University of Edinburgh, specialising in mathematical education. This combination of subject knowledge and educational training means I can explain concepts clearly, identify where students are struggling, and adapt my approach to different learning styles. I have strong experience across core areas such as calculus, linear algebra, probability and analysis, and I enjoy helping students build confidence, develop effective problem-solving habits and approach maths with a more structured mindset.

My tutoring style is structured, methodical and focused on building real understanding rather than memorisation. I break topics into clear, manageable steps and use worked examples, guided problem-solving and targeted practice to build confidence and strong exam technique. Lessons are usually 60 minutes, with 90-minute sessions available for A-Level Further Maths or Advanced Higher when more depth is needed. Every session is tailored to the student’s aims, whether that’s improving grades, exam preparation or consolidating school content.
