About Allison
I am a former New York City special education teacher (7 years in the classroom) with a Master's Degree in Special Education. I worked with hundreds of English language learners during my time as a teacher, mostly native spanish speakers. I have always had a love for learning and teaching language to others. Over the years since leaving the classroom, I have worked with preschool aged children on language development.

My approach to teaching language varies from person to person but in general, I find that experiential learning is the most effective for language acquisition. For instance, I prefer to teach using song lyrics or children's books (for beginners especially) because people tend develop language more easily and naturally through these methods. Visual supports are very important, and any amount of immersion if possible, will help build vocabulary and develop comfort with conversational phrases.
