About Eveny
Hello! I am Mx. Mendoza, a passionate educator with 3 years of experience teaching and tutoring in math. Even in my first year teaching, I could recognize the power of one-on-one instruction and how much support it could offer students. As a first-generation Mexican-American, education has been a huge part of my life and provided me with so many opportunities. Teaching is my way of paying it forward. I strive to create personalized lessons tailored to the specific needs of students. For the first few weeks, a typical lesson will have a quick and fun opening question that will either get students talking or get them thinking about the objective of the lesson. Afterwards, I use short warm-up questions that are low-stakes ways that we can display the skills we need to use for the lesson. Then, followed by a rigorous set of questions for students to further engage with the topic, usually including some real-life connection. Afterwards, I include computational as well as conceptual practice problems to allow students to employ a variety of skills during our sessions. Lastly, I like to wrap up with a fun data-collecting question where students will either reflect on the objective or provide some feedback on confidence/skill level. I always make sure to take time to write notes about my students to refer later, it gives me a small way to track their progress and is great for my lesson planning process!
