Alla is one of our best Russian tutors. They have a high-quality profile, verified qualifications, a quick response time, and great reviews from students!

About Alla

Since a young age I have been obsessed with languages and have gone through the process of learning 6 different foreign languages.

I realised that fluency comes through intuitive learning and actually enjoying the process, not just cramming and memorising words like the textbook teaches you to do!

Through teaching others I realised just how bad traditional language teaching is in the UK. Students knew tons of words, but couldn't string a sentence together. It was because they hadn't been taught the right way. Instead of getting a feeling for the patterns in the language, they were stuck memorising random words.

Quite frankly, the UK is monolingual, but this is not because Brits lack the ability! I believe it is because of this super boring and rigid way language is taught in our schools. That's why I have made it my mission to make languages accessible to all Brits.

I apply the same techniques that helped me to attain fluency in Russian, Mandarin, German, French and Indonesian to all my students, helping them learn with interactive media and language exchange, not boring and repetitive exercises.

About the lesson

My lessons target the commonly weak faculties of foreign language; Speaking and Listening. I make content relevant and memorable to the student and enable comprehensive input to get your child speaking and listening with confidence. As Russian is particularly difficult in terms of pronunciation and grammar, we'll master these whilst having fun, by doing shadowing (with Russian music/tv/film) and also by using tongue twisters and rhymes.

I have been learning with Alla for 10 months and my language skills have improved tremendously!

Her method of teaching is like no other I’ve experienced. Particularly, her emphasis on learning based on native media and real-world usage of the language, rather than leaning heavily on textbooks, gave me a deeper understanding of how native speakers use the language on a daily basis. Plus, it gave me the confidence to talk with native speakers immediately!

And yes, she also possesses the qualities that make a great teacher: patient, compassionate, a deep understanding of her subject, and the ability to explain it clearly. Can’t recommend her enough!

Alla was supoer helpful with my son Sam. He came in with a C predicted for his German GCSE and within 6 months of lessons was on track for an A. Seems like schools just aren't teaching them correctly!

My son has had so many problems with his French GCSE in school and I thought it would be a hopeless case. But after some lessons with Alla I was so surprised that he was speaking confidently and it seemed like the language finally made sense to him! Definitely recommend Alla’s unique methods!

Where do start!? Alla is so helpful when it comes to details that are usually disregarded by standard tutoring programmes, such as accent and intonation. I’ve never known of the contextual acquisition technique and it’s really helped my daughter with her GCSE German predicted grade. She’s not a natural linguist but with Alla’s help we boosted it from a C to an A! Highly recommended!
