About Sofia
I am a first-year university student studying Mechanical Engineering and have a strong passion for Maths and Physics, with a real enthusiasm for helping others who may find these subjects challenging. I have experience with Edexcel GCSE and iGCSE Maths and Physics, and I can also support students studying AQA. Although I’m new to formal online tutoring, I’ve helped younger students in maths drop-in sessions during sixth form and have been tutored myself, so I understand what makes a lesson effective and engaging. Alongside my academic interests, I also love art—especially drawing and painting—and enjoy playing tennis in my free time, which reflects my creative and well-rounded approach to learning.

I take a structured but enthusiastic approach to tutoring, starting by identifying the exact topics a student needs help with, either through discussion or by using the course specification to spot areas of difficulty. In lessons, I work closely with the student through a range of questions to understand what they find challenging and what level they’re working at. From there, we build up from their comfort zone to more difficult problems to help them improve. If something isn’t clear, I slow things down and explain it in a simple, visual way using diagrams, analogies, a digital whiteboard, or short videos where helpful. I aim to make learning engaging and enjoyable, while breaking topics down into clear steps so students can see that anything is achievable. I can also set extra practice questions and recommend useful resources to support learning outside of lessons, while keeping track of progress to help students reach their target grades.
