About Izzy
Hello! I am a First Class Honours graduate in English Language and Literature from the University of Oxford. I have experience teaching GCSE English Language and Literature, and humanities A-Levels (specialising in English Literature, Drama, Theatre, and Philosophy). I genuinely love helping students discover that the humanities, especially English, is about much more than memorising quotes - it's about developing confidence, curiosity and the ability to communicate ideas effectively.
➤ Background
My love for literature and theatre began with inspiring teachers who made even the most challenging texts engaging and accessible. Their enthusiasm shaped the way I teach today, and I aim to create lessons that are supportive, encouraging and intellectually stimulating.
I achieved A* grades in all three of my A-Levels before graduating with First Class Honours from the University of Oxford, and I was the only student from my cohort in secondary school to study there. More importantly than achieving top grades, I want my students to develop confidence in themselves and enjoy the process of learning.
Alongside my degree, I have worked across theatre, writing, journalism and communications, experiences which have strengthened my ability to analyse texts, communicate ideas clearly and bring creativity into learning. I am passionate about helping students develop their own voice, think critically and feel confident expressing their interpretations.
➤ Personal
I understand that English can feel challenging, whether it's analysing unfamiliar texts, writing essays under timed conditions or speaking confidently about ideas. Having experienced those challenges myself, I know how valuable the right support can be. My aim is to create a positive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, building confidence and developing their own voice.
➤ Interests
I have a particular interest in drama and theatre, where exploring historical, cultural and social contexts enriches our understanding of literature and performance. My studies at Oxford broadened these interests through areas including dramatic theory, autobiography, gender studies and crime writing, and more, while continually reinforcing my appreciation of literature as a way of understanding people, society and the world around us.
Whether you’re aiming for top grades, preparing for GCSEs or A-Levels, developing your analytical skills, or simply looking to feel more confident in English, I would be delighted to help. Having recently completed my own studies, I understand the challenges students face and the strategies that can make a genuine difference. I look forward to supporting you in achieving your goals and reaching your full potential!

➤ Individual goals
Every student has different strengths, challenges and ambitions, so our first session will focus on understanding your goals and creating a learning plan tailored to you. Whether you are preparing for GCSEs, A-Levels, improving your essay writing, or building confidence in English, lessons will be designed to support your progress and make learning engaging.
➤ Holistic teaching
I believe the best results come from developing a deeper understanding of literature rather than o memorising content. Together, we'll explore texts through close reading, character analysis, historical and cultural contexts, and critical interpretation, helping you think independently and prepare confidently for examinations and admissions interviews.
➤ Written and spoken communication
Clear communication is at the heart of successful English study. Sessions can focus on essay structure, developing arguments, selecting effective evidence, improving analytical writing, exam technique, revision strategies and providing detailed feedback to strengthen your work. We will also explore ideas through discussion, helping you articulate interpretations with confidence.
➤ Flexible and engaging learning
Lessons are adapted to your preferred learning style and may include discussion, debate, presentations or collaborative analysis alongside written work. These activities strengthen critical thinking, deepen textual understanding and improve both written and spoken communication, supporting success in examinations, admissions assessments and beyond.
➤ Academic and personal growth
My aim is to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable exploring ideas, asking questions and developing their own voice. By strengthening both academic ability and confidence, I hope to help students not only achieve their goals but also develop a lasting enjoyment of English!
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Izzy is a very empathetic and enthusiastic tutor. She is patient and helpful, and has helped motivate me to do my best. I now feel much more confident in my writing abilities.
Izzy's classes are interactive, fun, and she gives me the choice of what topics and texts to focus on, so I can improve the parts of my studies I'm weaker in. She's helped me strengthen my arguments, given me support during classes with essay feedback and any worries about exams, and made me feel more capable for my upcoming a-level exams!
