About Lola
I strongly believe that being able to read, interpret and closely analyse a range of texts and work out why they are written a certain way and why they trigger specific responses from readers is a vital skill to have beyond just exams - now more than ever. Likewise, building a clear argument and communicating it effectively is essential, no matter what subject or career you wish to pursue in the future. More importantly, though, engaging with literature is enriching and enjoyable, made even more so when you thoroughly understand it. I want students to leave my lessons feeling like analysis and essay writing has been demystified, but also like they have a deeper understanding of literature in general and why we actually care about it so much.

I am a current MA student with a first class BA in Film and Theatre, A grades in English Literature, History and Drama A-Levels, and four years' total tutoring experience. Lessons for GCSE and A-Level students should be 1-2 hours, and I tailor them depending on which areas the student needs to work on most. As these are mostly exam preparation, I find that the most useful way to teach is with plenty of practice questions and improving on classwork and prior exam answers. For students struggling to revise essay subjects, I also provide extensive revision materials and advice on how to use them as study aids. For primary school and younger secondary school students, I prefer to focus less on exams and more on building a good foundation of skills that will be applied to essay writing later on. With previous students, this has involved a mixture of reading comprehension and analysis from a wide range of texts, creative writing and practising correct spelling and grammar.
