About Michael
A bit about me: I began tutoring in high school when I realized my fellow students didn't know where to go for additional help. I read about and incorporated core principles from "universal design for learning," a methodology where instructors present the same information in multiple formats to explore what is most compatible with a student's understanding. Upon graduating, I began to work with college students in tutoring centers and to lead supplementary instruction sessions, in time teaching lecture and lab courses at my university. I pride myself on my ability to nurture a setting where students avidly engage in discussions and leave the class empowered to take their knowledge into the rest of their lives. I bring this wealth of experience to our tutoring sessions so that you can get exactly what you want from your education.

After working with hundreds of students, I can tell you that you're not alone in your struggles with math and science. There's often no time for teachers to gel with every student's unique learning style. I will work with you to find what approach to the material makes the most sense for you. My past students have gone from a single problem frustrating them all day to a simple shift in perspective making it a breeze!
I've taught in just about every setting: from one on one tutoring in high school to review sessions with hundreds of college students. Not to brag or anything, but I was even selected as the pedagogy fellow at my graduate school and put in charge of preparing the incoming graduate students to teach. This high level view of what teaching styles do and don't work gives my tutoring sessions a flexibility hard to find elsewhere. As for my skills in the material, I have thousands of hours of practice from my 11 years of tutoring, 7 years of teaching assistance, 2 years of instructing college courses, and PhD and BS in Physics (with an undergraduate minor in Mathematics). I can guarantee we'll figure out your course material together!
