PROFILE 1959 -

KEVIN HISCUTT was born in the port city of Burnie, Australia. There he attended a Roman Catholic primary school, then a Roman Catholic secondary school college. At 19, he enlisted in the Australian Permanent Army for three years. He trained and worked within signals intelligence and electronic warfare in Toowoomba. Having saved enough money, he travelled (back-packed) the World for one year in 12 African countries and many UK/European countries and 30 American States. Returning to Australia, Kevin joined the Roman Catholic Order of priests, the Marist Fathers in Sydney. It was here he started an intensive eight-year course, to train as a seminarian, to become an ordained Roman Catholic priest. This included a 12-month spiritual formation novitiate in rural New Zealand and, secondary teaching in a boys’ boarding school in regional Australia. However, Kevin completed around five years in the seminary and, it was during this time in his mid-twenties that he decided to seriously pursue the profession of Education as a career or vocation. In 1988, he started his full-time four-year Bachelor of Education (Primary). This was at Sydney’s newly-formed Australian Catholic University.

Kevin’s strong drive and interest in Inclusion Education emerged in the 1990s. This drive exists some 30 years later in 2020. Upon teaching graduation in 1991, he taught in Sydney systemic Catholic primary schools. In 1993, Kevin enrolled in post-graduate studies. This was in the Faculty of Education, at Sydney University’s Department of Educational Measurement, Psychology and Technology. A major part of Kevin’s Master of Education degree, was studying three coursework subjects in motivation, learning and educational research. These were with the late Assistant Professor Dr Raymond Debus PhD, Fulbright Scholar. Kevin then taught English to youth and adults in South Korea. Upon returning to Sydney around 1995, Hiscutt Tutoring was established as an educational business and the trademark You Can Achieve registered. Hundreds of private students were individually tutored in English and mathematics. The business was contracted self-employment, yet continued for nearly 15 years whilst he moved back into full-time teaching employment. Kevin taught full-time for seven-plus years in Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) in Sydney. Whilst teaching ASD and Asperger’s Syndrome students, he completed a specialised Master of Inclusive Education in Autism degree at Canberra University. In 2009, he emigrated to the Middle East in the State of Qatar, and spent seven-plus years in international Inclusion Education. This was at two British National Curriculum schools. One was regional-coastal with an enrolment approaching 5,000. The other was an urban academy of upwards of 1,500 students.

Since 2016, Kevin has been based in Northwest England. His professional contracts in Education vary. These are mostly with private inclusion students and their families. He was recently a home-school Autism teacher, then an 11+ tutor. Presently he educates in-home and online utilising smart learning technologies. Kevin also works in schools for extended periods, often individually with at-risk children and youth. Kevin has authored an Australian academic journal article on cooperative learning. He authored, published, marketed and distributed 1,000 copies of an Australian mathematics booklet for primary children: Speed It Up Multiplication Tables Booklet (28-day programme). Kevin is registered with Pearson Clinical Assessment, England as a Specialist Teacher (CL2R). He administers diagnostic achievement assessments and standardised assessments. These may be completed in-person and online nationally and globally. Kevin’s research investigates students’ development of positive academic self-concepts, and positive attitudes towards their learning.
