About Alhan
I am M. Alhan Zia, a dedicated MPhil student specializing in Applied Parasitology and Microbiology at the University of Karachi. My academic journey is deeply rooted in exploring the complex relationship between the gut-brain axis, gut dysbiosis, and neurodevelopmental or psychiatric disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorder and schizophrenia. Beyond my research, I am a passionate educator and international academic mentor. Since 2023, I have been providing remote, one-on-one science mentorship to international students, where my strength lies in my ability to translate complex biological concepts into clear, structured, and manageable study plans. My background combines rigorous laboratory work with field experience: I have honed my technical skills in molecular biology, including DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, and microbial characterization, through my internship at the Karachi Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (KIBGE). I have practical experience in field-based parasitology, notably conducting a comprehensive parasitic load investigation on elephants at the Karachi Zoo. Having graduated in the top 5 of my class during my MSc studies, I bring a high level of academic excellence to my tutoring.
